After making Waves across the world and in India, Pakistan is set to get its won version of the singing talent show ‘ Pop Idol’, auditions for which began here today. Pakistanidol, the local version of the globally celebrated singing talent show that has attracted 460 million viewers worldwide since it was launched in

2003.Imran Aslam, the president of the network, said Pakistanhas a history of producing talented musicians across genres. The idol will be a platform for people who sing in private, in the bathroom or in small family gatherings. We will bring them together and provide them with the opportunity to showcase their hidden talent, he said.

“From among them, the people will choose on voice that will reign in our hearts.”

Audience for Pakistanidol will also be held in other cities, including restive Quettaand Peshawar. Participants have to be between 15 to 30 year old.

Asif Raza Mir, managing director of Geo Entertainment, said the network was aware the there are security problems in Quettaand Peshawar but the two cities are equally important. So we will provide our contestants, judges and crew members with security, he said. The show was first aired in Britainin 2001 and immediately became a worldwide phenomenon, with local versions in Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe, North America and South America airing 199 series across 46 territories and attracting upwards of a staggering 6.5 billions votes worldwide.

Veet, the world’s leading brand in hair removal, held its acclaimed fashion event-Veet Celebration of Beauty on Saturday at the Expo Centerin Karachi.

Hosted by renowned Pakistani film and TV stars Aamina Sheikh and Azfar Rehman, the entertainment extravaganza consisted of  a live fashion show, music and dance entertainment and a Beauty Awards segment which celebrated the best of Pakistani beauty. Indeed, this year’s Veet Celebration of Beauty was expanded in scale and scope to feature a diverse range of content in a singular interactive ceremony, a market first for the beauty brand. The pink carpet of Veet Celebration of beauty 2013 was hosted by TV personality Ayesha Omar.

The fashion showcase was divided into four unique segments, which celebrated Pakistani fashion through the ages as conceptualized and styled by Nabila and her team. The vintage segment paid homage to the bygone era of classic Pakistani cinema and featured Elan by Khadijah Shah who presented her collection along with celebrity showstopper Zea Bakhtia. The Retro segment paid tribute to the roating’7os and showcased the fashion styling of designer sadaf malaterre, whose collection, aptly complemented by vivacious make-up and styling, portrayed the psychedelic nature of the era. The segment was closed by celebrity showstopper and Lollywood actress Sana Fakhar walking the ramp. For the pop segment, designer Ali xeeshan presented his disco inspired fashion collection along with celebrity showstopper Nadia Hussain, providing a befitting ode to the glamorous and over-the-top ‘8os. The final fashion segment of the day titled Eclectic was presented by design label sana safinaz and featured celebrity showstopper humaima Malick. The segment encapsulated the present, depicting the fashion and aesthetic style of the modern Pakistani woman. Veet Celebration of Beauty also featured music and dance performance, including numbers by Ali Azmat and Zoe Viccaji and dance performances by Mehwish Hayat and Sara Loren.

Mumbai: Calling the recent gang-rape of a woman photojournalist in Mumbai a “wake up call”, Bollywood’s actress brigade, including Shabana azmi and juhi chawla have, said the city is not safe anymore and that the incident has sent a “shock” down everyone’s spine.

Shabana Azmi: This ghastly incident is a wake-up call for all Mumbaikars who revel in calling our city the safest in India. The news rape law has not instilled any fear because of lack of faith in law and order
. We nee to tackle rape at many levels. There’s a deep-rooted misogyny, and sexual assault is used as an instrument of control and power so that women are denied freedom.

Juhi Chawla: Till now I was always proud of Mumbai. It was always vibrant and your safe. Buzzing with activity at all hours, alive and throbbing with excitement. This news comes as a shocker. I hope the victim will be healed and fine. I felt worse for the fact that she is a photographer, so she may be connected to our film industry. I can’t imagine how painful and traumatic this must be for her and her family. Very tragic.

Lilettle Bubey: Shocking, shocking, and shocking. We always took pride in Mumbai for being safe women. But if looks like even garter the Delhi incident, we have learnt no lessons. Such is the nature of the beasts that it won’t change. The anti-rape laws are not detrimental enough. I am almost tempted to believe castration is the only solution.

Poja Bedi: Mumbai is definitely not going to be a safe city for women if we don’t send out a loud, stem warning to potential rapists. We  need swift sentencing through fast-track courts. The hardest and severest punishment must be meted out to these rapists.

Reema Kagti: I don’t feel Mumbai or any other place in India is safe  for working women.

Rich Chadha: The issue is not where if happens. But that it happens at all. The problem is with the Indian chauvinist male, who believes any women stepping out of the house is meant for him to use and abuse-be it a student or working women. Let’s not lock up our girls, let’s teach the boys home manners. And let’s have strong laws in place that act as a determent for these beasts.

Raveena Tandon: Mumbai is not safe for women. So far felt if was because of the growing number of slums in the city. But crime against women is on the rise for no given reason. I don’t think it’s safe for lone women to travel in Mumbai on public transport after dark.

After entertaining us for years, the Lollywood queen wants to put an end to all jokes made about her English and age, miffed actress express her
frustration, saying that those who mock her must now face her wrath. She is set to take legal action against all who make fun of her, and is starting with TV show host Hamid Mir.

“Hamid Mir has given out wrong information to the general public. He said he’s been watching on TV for the past 27 years wheras, I entered the industry as a child star in 1995,” she says in an angry tone, claiming that it’s misinformation. He is a senior journalist and he should not share false news. This is not the right kind of journalism that he is promoting. Wary of his intentions, she asks, “What personal fudge does he have against me? What kind of a national agenda is this that he’s insulting me ?”

Meera says that she had high regard and expectations from a man of Mir’s caliber but was left stunned when she watched the Eid transmission on Geo- hosted by cricketer Shoaib Akhtar- where she feels she was mocked.

Comments regarding age and looks are secondary when it comes to making heads turn for Meera. It’s the way she speaks English that has really brought her into the limelight. “No one has the right to make fun of me or my English. Either you prove it or you sit quietly.” She says.

Nobody can defame me. I will send notices to those involved through my lawyer, and they will have to face the court. Meera believes that she is a prominent star and does not deserve to be openly ridiculed. “Every Tom, Dick and Harry is on TV acting like Meera!”she snaps. I am taking my life very seriously now and want to build a hospital in Pakistan for my country-men.

13^th death anniversary for Pakistani pop singer Naia Hassan is being observed today. 13 anniversary of the death of the iconic Pakistani pop singer Nazia Hassan was observed throughout the country today. August 13, 2000 died of lung cancer at 35 year old pop icon.
Her song “AAp Jaisa koi “ Let her Indian film Qurbani (1980) in Pakistan and the entire south asian legend and pop icon in the 1980’s, it is an enviable position, and loved, even today, in the years after her death.

Her debut album Disco Deewane (1981) are also plotted in 14 centuries worldwide and became the best-selling asian pop record up to thet time . Withers brother Zohaib Hassan, Nazia has sold over 60 million records. Nazia was the first time Pakistanwon a Filmfare Award, and the maintenance of a class of Film fare Best Female playback singer from 15 she was the youngest winner. Hassan is proud of the performance , winning two gold and white gold discs.

Haseeb Ahmad in 2007 in a tribute to nazia hassan projections kara film festival and Ankarauniversity has created a musical documentary fairytale. This song is in India and despite Nazia Pakistan, she won the night, there is a huge success in 1981, nazia Indian film to win the Audience award for best Female playback for AAP Jaisa koi.
